This page is all about the preterm labor and birth of my daughter, Haley "Miracle", aka The Haley Bug! We call her Haley "Miracle" because she was born at 25 weeks 1 day gestation, or 3 1/2 months early. She was due March 6, 1999 and she was born November 23, 1998, sometimes that puts it into perspective!

You will find our entire story throughout these pages. We will take you from Haley's early birth and bumpy road in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), right on up to the present showing what a wonderful and delightful little girl Haley has become.

* Read a very special essay, 'Three Years Worth of Miracle'

During her 3 months and 3 days stay in the NICU, Haley made some wonderful friends. Haley had 5 primary nurses, 4 resident pediatricians, 2 neonatologists, tons of respiratory therapists, and 3 "little" friends who were in the NICU through all, or a large part of Haley's NICU experience. Everyone was wonderful from the neonatologists to the social worker to the cleaning ladies to the other parents! This page is a tribute to them and how much they mean to us, now and forever! They will always be in our hearts and minds.

Miss Desiree.......
This is our most favorite nurse! She would let us hold (kangaroo Care) Haley even when she was on the vent. She would always talk to Haley with such tenderness and love in her voice! We all love her to death! She even babysat for us after Haley was long out of the NICU!
Grace.......
This was Haley's other primary day nurse. She also talked very lovingly to our Haley, and would let us hold her when we would come in, and when the time was right, encouraged us to get her out ourselves. She was her nurse the day we put on her first outfit!
Nicole........
This was Haley's first nurse, and one who had a very close bond with Haley. She joined the primary team when Haley was a couple of months old. She said she could not handle being her nurse during the sick times, because she felt such a close bond to her. She did visit with and talk to her all the time though!
Rochelle........
Rochelle was a lot of fun! She was young, and she loved Tigger as much as Haley I think! It seemed like she worked ALL the time, so Haley spent quite a bit of time with her. We really didn't get to know Rochelle a lot until Haley was a bit older. We grew to love her so very much!
Rina............
Rina will always have a special place in our hearts because she was her nurse the night we got to hold her for the first time! Another memorable moment with Rina is the night she was getting ready to weigh Haley, and she pooped all over the front of her when she was transferring her from isolette to scale! Not one peep but "it's OK" from her!

All of Haley's nurses have a very special place in our hearts! They took care of our little Sweet Pea when we were not able to be there with her. I know that Haley had a lot of love given to her when we weren't there by these wonderful women! We can never express our gratitude for their loving care! God Bless them all!

Dr. Lisa Kernen.......
This is Haley's 1st pediatrician. She worked in the Nicu for a month while Haley was there, and she was so wonderful with the little babies that we chose her for her pediatrician. She would hold Haley's hand during procedures because she "knows it makes them feel more comfortable". Sometimes, it's the little things that mean the most!
Dr. McCaffrey......
This is one of the Neonatologists from the NICU. He was the kindest man. He would take as much time as we needed to explain things that were so foreign to us like IVH's (Intraventricular Hemhorrage), and ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity), etc. This picture was taken at the Nicu reunion party - he was so eager to hold all the little babies! He is what a doctor truly should be, especially one that works where he does!

There were so many doctors who took care of Haley while she was in the NICU, and we thank them all so much! These are the 2 who stand out in mind because they were exceptionally wonderful. I can't remember a doctor (well, maybe one, but she was only there for like 2 days after Haley was born) that I didn't like and respect. They all took excellent care of Haley. I couldn't have picked a better hospital for her to be at!

Destin.......
Destin was a 27 weeker who was born 2 weeks before Haley. His mom, Dawn, came and talked to me when I was on bedrest in the hospital, and shared her story with me. This meant the WORLD to me! There is nothing like words of comfort from another preemie mom! This was Haley's "1st boyfriend", and we miss him terribly since we moved away! He is such a cutie!
Nicolette.......
Nicolette was a 29 weeker, severe IUGR and was Haley's "neighbor". She was born about 2 weeks after Haley. That's Nicolette on the right and Haley on the left. Claudia and PJ, her parents, and Mike and I became quite good friends, it seemed like we would always be visiting at the same time! They all made great neighbors!

These are our NICU Pals from left to right; Tariq-23 weeker (born in October, not sure of exact date), Nicolette-29 weeker (born December 2, 1998), Haley-25 weeker (born November 23, 1998), and Destin-27 weeker (born November 10, 1998). This unfortunately is the only picture I have of Tariq, but he was also one of Haley's little friends in the NICU!

These are people who will stay in our hearts and minds forever, as they were a part of a very difficult time in our lives, and they were there with us through it. I feel I made a few lifelong friends out of the deal though, and I love them all in a way I cannot even explain!
